RIP Troy Davis

Minutes ago, Troy Davis was executed by the state of Georgia after a final appeal fell through. Convicted for a crime he did not commit, he died an innocent man- our deepest condolences go out to his family and supporters who have advocated on his behalf for over two decades.

Sentenced to death in 1991, Davis spent the past two decades, nearly half of his life, in prison. Accused of the murder of a Savannah police officer, seven of the nine witnesses who testified against Davis had since recanted their testimony, and pleas of Davis’ behalf have been made by the NAACP, former president Jimmy Carter, Pope Benedict XVI, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and others.

His last words are recorded as follows: “For those about to take my life may God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls.”

The fight for justice goes on.
